TAWI - TAWI

In the Philippines, Tawi-Tawi is an island province in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). It is officially known as the Province of Tawi-Tawi (Tausug: Wilaya' sin Tawi-Tawi; Sinama: Jawi Jawi/Jauih Jauih; Tagalog: Lalawigan ng Tawi-Tawi). Bongao is the capital of Tawi-Tawi [4].

Situated on the island of Borneo to the west, it shares sea boundaries with the Indonesian province of North Kalimantan and the Malaysian state of Sabah, making it the country's southernmost province. The province of Sulu is located to the northeast. Just 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Sabah, Tawi-Tawi also includes the Turtle Islands, Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi Island, and a few more islands in the northwest Sulu Sea.

Up until 1973, Sulu had control over the communities that now make up Tawi-Tawi province.
