SULU

Officially known as the Province of Sulu (Tausūg: Wilāya sin Lupa' Sūg; Tagalog: Lalawigan ng Sulu), Sulu ([sʊˈlu]) is a province in the Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines.

Prior to the Supreme Court of the Philippines ruling on September 9, 2024, that its inclusion was unlawful due to the province's simple majority vote against it in the 2019 Bangsamoro autonomy plebiscite, it was a part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) [4].

Jolo, on the island of the same name, serves as its capital.[5] The province also contains Maimbung, the Sultanate of Sulu's royal palace. Sulu is located on the northern edge of the Celebes Sea and the southern edge of the Sulu Sea.
