SOUTHERN LEYTE
The Province of Southern Leyte, officially known as Southern Leyte (Cebuano: Habagatang Leyte; Kabalian: Habagatan nga Leyte; Waray: Salatan nga Leyte; Tagalog: Timog Leyte[3]), is a Philippine province situated in the Eastern Visayas. Maasin is its largest city and capital. Before becoming a separate province in 1959, Southern Leyte was part of the third congressional district of Leyte. Limasawa, an island to the south of Southern Leyte, is regarded as the birthplace of Roman Catholicism in the Philippines because it is thought to have hosted the first Roman Catholic Mass celebrated on Philippine soil
