SOUTHERN COTABATO

South Cotabato,[a] formally known as the Province of South Cotabato, is a Philippine province situated in Mindanao's Soccsksargen area. It shares boundaries with Sultan Kudarat to the north and west, Sarangani to the south and northeast, and Davao del Sur to the far northeast. Its capital is Koronadal, which is also the regional hub of Soccsksargen. The Sarangani Bay is to the southeast.


Although it is managed separately from the province, General Santos, the sole coastal city or town on the shores of Sarangani Bay, is the largest city in the province and the area (by population). Prior to becoming an independent province in 1992, Sarangani was a part of South Cotabato.
