MOUNTAIN PROVINCE

Situated in the Cordillera Administrative Region of Luzon, the Philippines' Mountain Province (Ilocano: Probinsia ti Bantay; Filipino: Lalawigang Bulubundukin[3]) is a landlocked province. Its main municipality is Bauko, and its capital is Bontoc. In the past, several international sources referred to Mountain Province as Mountain. Locals typically abbreviate the name to Mt. Province.

The province's location in the upper regions of Luzon island's Cordillera Central mountain range gave it its name.

The historical province that contained the majority of the present-day Cordillera provinces was also known as Mountain Province. In 1908, the Philippine Commission created this ancient province. In 1966, it was divided into Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga-Apayao, and Mountain Province.
