Officially known as the Province of Iloilo (Hiligaynon: Kapuoran sang Iloilo; Kinaray-a: Kapuoran kang Iloilo/Kapuoran ka Iloilo; Filipino: Lalawigan ng Iloilo; Spanish: Provincia de Iloílo), Iloilo , also known as Iloilo Province,[a]. Politically independent from the province, Iloilo City is the capital and largest city of Western Visayas. Situated in the southeast of the Visayan island of Panay, Iloilo is bounded to the west by the province of Antique, to the north by Capiz, to the northeast by the Jintotolo Channel, to the east by the Guimaras Strait, and to the southwest by the Iloilo Strait and Panay Gulf.
